Why This Exists
AI is becoming ambient infrastructure. It writes, searches, edits, speaks, routes, remembers, decides, and increasingly acts through tools. The interface for this power is still mostly a chat box, a hidden context window, an editor ghost, or a cloud-side agent log.
That is too soft a surface for something this consequential. Shared intelligence needs touchable instruments: keys, cable, legends, layers, rituals, and physical friction where consequence begins.
High Tech / Low Agency
Cyberpunk's old formula named a social mismatch: technology can become extremely advanced while daily life becomes more precarious, controlled, surveilled, outsourced, or illegible. In the AI era, the mismatch changes shape: high-tech models, low-agency users.
PocketPunk does not romanticize low life. It rejects the bargain. The answer is not neon. The answer is owned instruments.
The PocketPunk Position
- AI may generate. The human authors.
- Context must be shaped.
- Consequence must be grounded.
- Tools should be owned, remapped, repaired, and carried.
What Punk Means Here
Punk is not a font, a color palette, or fake rebellion printed on a case. Punk means refusing sealed dependency as the default condition of intelligent work.
- Wired reliability over performative futurism.
- QMK/VIA programmability over locked interaction.
- Visible material structure over sealed magic.
- Local configuration over cloud-only identity.
- Human friction where machines want instant yes.
What The Keyboard Is
The keyboard is not only for typing prompts. It is a physical grammar
for shared intelligence: / invokes, @ brings
context, ! opens the shell, arrows navigate, and Esc
interrupts.
The Ethical Floor
PocketPunk will not sell one-tap surrender. No one-tap accept-all as product identity. No default merge, publish, or deploy theatrics. No claim that a keyboard magically solves alignment.
Fast where flow is safe. Friction where consequence begins. Readable state before durable action. Remapping before lock-in. Honest preorder terms before hype.
